POSITION SUMMARY: The Payroll Accounting Analyst collaborates with Human Resources to effectively administer the district’s payroll and time and attendance systems. Responsible for providing advanced technical work involving the performance of specialized duties relating to our payroll, time & attendance, and human resource information systems (HRIS). This role involves compiling and calculating statistical payroll and HRIS data, compiling reports from the data, processing, and balancing payrolls, and maintaining and verifying time and attendance. Also participates in payroll technology improvement initiatives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of experience and education required.
EXPERIENCE:
• 4 years of professional experience in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field preferred.• Kronos and Lawson Payroll experience preferred. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Understands and performs all phases of the payroll process in accordance with internal procedures, policies, tools, and standards.• Handles complex activities such as reconciliations, journal entries/accruals, wire liability transmittals, manual checks, voiding checks, direct deposit reversals and benefit changes.• Utilizes a considerable knowledge of payroll policies and practices to perform complex payroll activities in support of accurate and timely payroll preparation, processing, and distribution.• Monitors and processes additions and modifications and ensures accurate accounting distribution and preparation of deductions.• Analyzes and processes changes on internal reports and makes corrections to internal applications.• Compiles data and prepares complex, statistical payroll reports including government (payroll tax returns) and compliance reporting.• Interfaces with employees and managers to answer questions regarding payroll matters, records, deductions, and procedures.• Makes recommendations on improving payroll processes and serves on project team for all systems updates, software implementations and in-service training.• Stays abreast and aware of new laws and regulations regarding payroll and/or tax related issues.• Adheres to the strict confidentiality of payroll records and other wage related employee issues.• Writes queries and prepares ad-hoc reports as requested; collects data and metrics to support quality control initiatives and key performance indicator reporting.• Maintains a high-level of customer service in the resolution of customer inquiries.• Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed.• Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
